Freelance Architect for Residential Extension in Auckland

Project Overview

This role involves designing a 75-square-meter extension to a traditional brick bungalow located in Auckland, New Zealand. The expansion will include a modern lounge area inspired by mid-century style as well as an additional bedroom. The design must respect and complement the original building's character while introducing creative and harmonious new spaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Create conceptual and schematic designs specifically for the residential extension including lounge and bedroom spaces.
• Ensure the new extension reflects a modern mid-century design aesthetic that complements the existing structure.
• Produce detailed architectural drawings and documentation suitable for council approvals and construction processes.
• Work closely with clients to adjust and improve design plans based on their input.
• Collaborate with engineers, consultants, and contractors throughout the project life cycle.
• Provide recommendations on materials, finishes, and environmentally sustainable design alternatives.
• Perform site visits when necessary to evaluate existing site conditions and supervise construction progress.

Skills and Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Architecture or comparable qualification is required.
• Demonstrated experience in residential extension or renovation projects.
• A strong portfolio highlighting skills in modern and mid-century architectural design.
• Proficiency with architectural software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp.
• Understanding of New Zealand building regulations and the council submission procedures.
• Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and teamwork.
• Capability to manage projects independently and adhere to set deadlines.
• Must be based in New Zealand, able to work remotely, and available to travel occasionally to Auckland.
