Role Overview

The Founding Chief of Staff is a critical role amplifying the founding team's impact. This position is not administrative; rather, it demands a proactive leader who excels in unstructured environments, drives comprehensive execution throughout the organization, and translates strategic intent into measurable outcomes.

You will collaborate closely with the founders on company-wide operations, fundraising activities, hiring efforts, strategic partnerships, and internal progress tracking. Responsibilities include creating operational rhythms, ensuring advancement of priorities, and stepping into essential tasks as needed.

The role is available for both full-time and part-time candidates, prioritizing the right fit over schedule constraints.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strategic planning and operational cadence
• Drive cross-departmental execution of key company initiatives
• Assist with fundraising efforts, investor relations, and preparing board presentations
• Coordinate recruitment and lead major hiring campaigns
• Manage relationships with government entities and strategic partners
• Prepare executive communications, briefings, and decision support materials
• Enhance internal communications, cultivate culture, and bolster organizational effectiveness
• Leverage modern AI tools to streamline research, documentation, planning, and operational processes

Success Metrics Within the First Year

• Implement a scalable operating rhythm across the company
• Support fundraising initiatives and investor due diligence
• Contribute to pilot programs and nurturing strategic alliances
• Aid in recruiting top-tier early team members
• Become a dependable execution partner to the founders

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a structured builder and outstanding communicator who thrives amidst ambiguity, driven by mission and operating with utmost discretion and exceptional initiative. They craft leverage through organization while minimizing unnecessary bureaucracy.

Experience Requirements

• Between four to eight years in consulting, government, national security, operations, strategy, or dynamic startup environments
• Prior Chief of Staff or senior Strategy & Operations leadership experience is highly preferred
• Familiarity with AI, biotechnology, public health, or national security sectors is a significant advantage

Compensation and Work Structure

• Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and part/full-time status and may include equity participation
• Direct reporting line to the CEO
• Preference for Boston, MA location, though outstanding remote candidates will be considered
• Flexible engagement arrangements including full-time and part-time options
