Job description
Assignment overview
This is a short-term online volunteering assignment based in Rwanda. The work is remote, task-focused, and non-contractual. Volunteers are not UN Volunteers, do not receive any allowance or other entitlements, and receive a certificate of appreciation after successful completion. The UN Volunteer programme is not part of the selection or collaboration process.
Context
The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) supports African member states through research, convening, and operational work that advances economic and social development, regional integration, and international cooperation. In this case, UNECA SROEA has supported the Government of Seychelles in shaping a national cruise tourism strategy informed by a cost-benefit analysis of the sector. The final output must be a fully designed, print-ready publication for final submission.
Assignment details
The selected volunteer will work under the guidance of the project officer at ECA and help prepare the report for publication.
- Reformat the document and align figures, tables, and annexes with the table of contents.
- Bring all tables into a consistent standard format.
- Add visual design elements that improve readability and flow.
- Create one infographic that highlights the report’s main points.
- Design a cover page.
- Deliver the final print-ready file.
Time commitment and duration
The assignment lasts for 2 weeks, with an expected workload of 11 to 15 hours per week. There are 4 assignment slots available.
Requirements
Applicants should have the ability to respond constructively to feedback, collaborate with a team, work independently, and meet deadlines. Strong English communication skills are required. Candidates should also be comfortable using design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, or similar software. Experience in professional PowerPoint development is also expected. Prior exposure to international development topics such as circular economy, energy, or skills development is considered an advantage, as is experience with UN agencies or development organizations.
Language requirement
Fluent English is required.
