Job description

Assignment overview

This is a short-term online volunteering assignment based in Rwanda. The work is remote, task-focused, and non-contractual. Volunteers are not UN Volunteers, do not receive any allowance or other entitlements, and receive a certificate of appreciation after successful completion. The UN Volunteer programme is not part of the selection or collaboration process.

Context

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) supports African member states through research, convening, and operational work that advances economic and social development, regional integration, and international cooperation. In this case, UNECA SROEA has supported the Government of Seychelles in shaping a national cruise tourism strategy informed by a cost-benefit analysis of the sector. The final output must be a fully designed, print-ready publication for final submission.

Assignment details

The selected volunteer will work under the guidance of the project officer at ECA and help prepare the report for publication.

  • Reformat the document and align figures, tables, and annexes with the table of contents.
  • Bring all tables into a consistent standard format.
  • Add visual design elements that improve readability and flow.
  • Create one infographic that highlights the report’s main points.
  • Design a cover page.
  • Deliver the final print-ready file.

Time commitment and duration

The assignment lasts for 2 weeks, with an expected workload of 11 to 15 hours per week. There are 4 assignment slots available.

Requirements

Applicants should have the ability to respond constructively to feedback, collaborate with a team, work independently, and meet deadlines. Strong English communication skills are required. Candidates should also be comfortable using design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, or similar software. Experience in professional PowerPoint development is also expected. Prior exposure to international development topics such as circular economy, energy, or skills development is considered an advantage, as is experience with UN agencies or development organizations.

Language requirement

Fluent English is required.

Additional information

Volunteerism refers to activities carried out freely for the public good, where financial gain is not the primary motivation.

Inclusivity statement

The United Nations Volunteers programme is an equal opportunity initiative and welcomes applications from qualified professionals. Diversity is encouraged across gender, care status, protected characteristics, and other backgrounds. All volunteers are expected to uphold the values of UNV by opposing discrimination and promoting respect for human rights and individual dignity, regardless of race, sex, gender identity, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, age, language, social origin, or other status.

Scam warning

The United Nations never charges any fee for applications, processing, training, interviews, or testing. If anyone asks for payment, ignore the request. Be cautious when sharing personal information online, as official names, logos, and addresses can be copied or misused.
