Role overview
This full-time, on-site position supports a school cafeteria in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area. The Food Service Worker helps prepare and distribute meals, keeps the kitchen and serving areas sanitary, and works closely with the rest of the team to ensure meal service runs smoothly for students, staff, and visitors. What you will do
- Prepare and portion meals using recipes, production records, and required safety standards.
- Keep the kitchen and service areas orderly, hygienic, and safe.
- Replenish serving stations, salad bars, and milk coolers.
- Follow correct processes for storing food, rotating stock, and maintaining sanitation.
- Serve students, staff, and visitors in a polite and professional way.
- Help receive deliveries and organize inventory supplies.
- Sweep, mop, and dispose of trash when needed.
- Comply with all local, state, federal, and company health and safety rules.
- Support teammates by stepping in where needed or covering shifts when required.
- Complete reports and other assigned tasks within deadlines.
- Take on other duties that support the kitchen team and the school meal program.
Qualifications
Applicants should bring a dependable attitude, a willingness to work as part of a team, and comfort with routine tasks. Prior experience in food service or cleaning is preferred. Basic math and computer ability are required. Candidates must pass a background check and fingerprint screening, have reliable transportation, and be comfortable working around children in a school setting. Professional, respectful, and inclusive behavior with coworkers and customers is expected.
Working conditions
This role involves standing for a full shift, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, and frequent bending, reaching, walking, and use of the hands. Work takes place in a busy kitchen environment with moderate noise and constant movement. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, full time, with occasional extended weeks. Participation in company events or meetings may sometimes be required.
