About the Role
Join GHD as a Financial Accountant within our Centre of Excellence Controllership team, supporting operations across New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. This role is crucial in delivering precise financial reporting, statutory accounting, compliance activities, tax-related tasks, cash flow management, banking, and payroll financial processes.
Working closely with finance and operational teams, you will gain a broad exposure to several financial areas within a dynamic global professional services firm. As part of the global finance community, you will participate in continuous professional development, best practice alignment, and process enhancement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly review and posting of journal entries during month-end close for NZ Pacific business.
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare reconciliations, and compile supporting working papers.
- Handle statutory accounting obligations including group reporting, local financial statements, and audit support.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and execute ad hoc banking payments.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and provisions ensuring correct accounting treatment and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with the tax team to support New Zealand tax compliance.
- Provide timely financial information and issue resolution assistance to finance and business stakeholders.
- Drive process standardization, improvements, and implementation of GHD’s operating procedures in line with global policies.
- Uphold strong documentation, control standards, professional ethics, and confidentiality.
- Contribute to fostering a high-performance finance environment emphasizing collaboration, accountability, and continuous betterment.
Candidate Profile
- At least five years of relevant experience in finance or accounting roles.
- Possess a bachelor's degree with an accounting focus or an equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), or similar professional certification (or working towards completion) highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of IFRS, statutory accounting, financial controls, reconciliations, and financial statement compilation.
- Experience with cash flow management, banking operations, payroll finance, and audit processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with TM1 and BI reporting tools is a plus.
- Knowledge of New Zealand tax laws and local compliance standards.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to meet deadlines in a busy setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for working effectively with diverse finance and operational teams.
- A practical, proactive approach toward enhancing processes while maintaining robust control environments.
- Strict commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and compliance norms.
