Finance Paid Consultant - Business Cases & Scenario Modeling

Role overview

This is a one-off, paid consulting engagement for seasoned finance professionals who can share detailed, practical insights from real work experience. The assignment supports an AI Marketplace research project and is not a permanent or full-time position.

The work is remote and intended for U.S.-based experts only. No advance preparation is needed; participants are simply expected to explain how they typically handle the relevant finance workflows in practice.

What the engagement involves

You will take part in an AI-led recorded video interview lasting about 30 minutes. During the session, you will walk through your actual approach to finance work rather than giving theoretical answers.

Core topics covered

• How you build business cases, including costs, benefits, ROI, NPV, payback, assumptions, scenarios, and sensitivity analysis
• How you test and challenge assumptions with business stakeholders, including handling benefits that are strategic or difficult to quantify
• How you design what-if models to guide decisions instead of merely producing outputs
• How you prepare recommendation materials, document scenario assumptions and risks, and track outcomes after investment decisions

The interview will explore your workflow across business-case intake, assumption review, investment appraisal, scenario modeling, recommendation development, and post-investment review.

Candidate profile

This opportunity is suited to professionals who can explain each step of these processes clearly, confidently, and with specific examples from their own work. Applicants should be able to answer follow-up questions in detail during the AI-led interview.

Compensation and engagement terms

The estimated pay is $125 per hour, prorated for a 30-minute task. This is a project-based contract arrangement rather than a salaried role.

Participants choose their own schedule, use their own tools to complete the interview, and remain free to take on other opportunities at the same time.

Data use and participation notice

After the interview is completed, the recording and transcript, along with AI-generated insights, will be shared with the internal research team and AI lab partner. The information will be used to build a structured task list for the profession and to improve AI models.

Required experience and background

• At least 6 years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A business partnering, corporate finance, investment appraisal, or business operations finance
• Hands-on involvement in business-case intake, assumption validation, investment appraisal, scenario modeling, recommendation development, and post-investment review
• Practical experience influencing or making decisions around assumption credibility, investment thresholds, scenario selection, risk and sensitivity framing, approval routing, and ownership after approval
• Comfort using tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Anaplan, Adaptive Planning, Tableau, and Power BI
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain processes, decisions, and rationale in a structured way
• Direct ownership or execution of these workflows in a live production environment
• Experience working alongside cross-functional teams in finance, strategy, treasury, investor relations, or business partnering
