Job description

Role purpose

This position is designed for someone who wants to build hands-on experience in operating plant equipment and understanding process routines in a safe, disciplined manner. The trainee is expected to work strictly within established safety rules, learn plant hazards, follow permit-to-work practices, and support consistent operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

  • Observe and manage field equipment using SOPs, SOCs, LLF checklists, and on-demand reading instruments.
  • Carry out condition checks with portable tools and take up minor troubleshooting and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate with the shift superintendent and panel executive to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Collect field samples and ensure they are delivered to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Keep logs, records, and documentation for the assigned area and equipment up to date and accurate.

Safety and hazard management

  • Look for opportunities to improve safety and contribute practical ideas that strengthen the safety culture.
  • Manage hazardous materials and plant waste according to defined procedures.
  • Work with contract employees to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Follow safe operating limits and encourage compliance with established procedures.
  • Respond as a first line of support during emergencies and help reduce risk to people and equipment.
  • Work with safety engineers and other stakeholders to report, investigate, and close safety issues quickly.

Collaboration and coordination

  • Partner with field executives and shift field engineers to support day-to-day plant activities.
  • Maintain clear communication with contractors while ensuring tasks are executed safely and correctly.

Permits, compliance, and improvement

  • Review and approve permits only after confirming the work area is safe and the requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with the safety in-charge to ensure permit procedures are followed and properly recorded.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve operating methods and safety practices.
  • Keep learning about current safety standards, management systems such as TQM, EFQM, QCC, and 5S, and relevant technical know-how for the field.

Education required

A diploma in a relevant engineering discipline or a BSc/MSc in Chemistry is required.

Experience

Applicants should have 0 to 2 years of experience. Familiarity with field locations and plant equipment is expected. Preferred exposure includes using ODR devices, basic troubleshooting, and minor maintenance tasks.

  • Complete all equipment monitoring checks as per SOPs and SOCs.
  • Suggest and implement one improvement each month related to chemical handling and waste management to help reduce waste.
  • Help improve operational efficiency and support a 5% rise in equipment performance over the year.
