About the role
This position plays an important part in shaping and delivering strategic and operational work that improves the organisation’s ability to respond to climate-related challenges across services and operations. Based in Officer, the role sits within a supportive team and works across the council to bring people together and deliver practical outcomes.
The job offers a full-time Band 6 position with a salary range of $88,168 to $104,466, plus superannuation and a monthly ADO. The working arrangement is hybrid, with the office location in Officer.
Key contribution areas
- Lead the creation, rollout and regular review of the council’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan and Towards Zero Emissions Plan.
- Provide specialist guidance to council and the community on climate adaptation, energy efficiency and lowering emissions.
- Oversee the council’s carbon inventory and emissions reporting, including data collection, analysis and compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
- Plan and deliver projects, initiatives and programs focused on climate change, resilience and energy efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to lift environmental performance through renewable energy, innovation and best-practice solutions.
- Contribute to policy and strategy work, including submissions and responses to government programs and legislation.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with internal teams, government bodies and regional groups such as the South East Councils Climate Change Alliance.
- Keep up to date with emerging trends, policy shifts and regulatory changes affecting climate resilience, energy and emissions management.
What you will need
- A tertiary qualification in environmental science, engineering, planning, carbon management or a closely related area.
- A solid grasp of climate adaptation, resilience and carbon emissions frameworks, including the relevant legislative context.
- Proven experience developing, implementing, tracking and reporting on policies, strategies or programs.
- Strong project planning and delivery capability, supported by effective time management.
- Good research, analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge or experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency and emissions management is preferred.
- A collaborative, innovative and future-oriented approach, with a willingness to keep learning and share knowledge.
