Job description

Role overview

This position is responsible for steering and tracking shift production activities so that output, quality, and delivery commitments are met within the agreed timeline and process standards. The role works closely with cross-functional stakeholders to keep plant operations safe, efficient, and compliant.

  • Plan and coordinate shift-wise manufacturing activities in line with production plans and instructions from the Plant Head and Production Lead.
  • Confirm that required raw materials are available on time and get them checked and approved by the QA team before use.
  • Track raw material and utility consumption during each shift.
  • Perform routine plant rounds to observe process conditions, equipment health, and operator performance; intervene where troubleshooting or guidance is needed.
  • Allocate manpower effectively and maintain smooth communication across departments to support safe and uninterrupted operations.
  • Compile shift reports, keep the plant manager informed of status updates, and ensure batch sheets and log sheets are completed accurately.
  • Flag both favorable and unfavorable process deviations that could influence product quality, and implement corrective suggestions to reduce variation.
  • Use OMPro snippets to record process parameters and asset information.
  • Maintain operating conditions within approved specifications, including plant parameters, lab results, and equipment operating limits; report and correct any deviation.
  • Continuously monitor and update the plant optimizer, wherever applicable, to support best plant performance.
  • Follow production safety, fire, and environmental requirements at all times and ensure the shift team adheres to the same.
  • Check that plant safety equipment, including PSVs and fire & gas systems, is available and functional; escalate any abnormality promptly.
  • Review potential safety, fire, and environmental hazards, determine root causes, and take mitigation actions with the Production Lead.
  • Work with the Safety team to investigate minor incidents, prepare action plans, and implement preventive measures to avoid repeat events.
  • Ensure that safety, fire, and environmental compliance records and legal documents are properly maintained and up to date.
  • Support emergency response activities for safety or fire events and coordinate with internal and external teams for swift closure.
  • Take charge as incident controller until Service and Support Managers arrive, and carry out root-cause analysis to launch corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to keep operations running without interruption through timely breakdown and preventive maintenance, enabling quick recovery after equipment issues.
  • Use the OMPro tool effectively to manage alarms, communication, and data handling.
  • Ensure the shift follows all environmental, safety, and health guidelines and report any non-compliance.
  • Prepare the team for internal and external audits and take corrective action when any gap or red flag is identified.
  • Make sure the production process follows the defined Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Help build the production plan and execute daily activities according to function standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement new initiatives and projects as per approved policies to meet future production needs.
  • Suggest improvements in business processes, operating specifications, and best practices.
  • Take part in recruitment activities and support retention and engagement of the team.
  • Coach, guide, and develop team members so they can handle larger and more complex responsibilities.
  • Assess training needs for the team and recommend learning interventions.

Education

A bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology with a specialization in Chemical Engineering is required.

Experience

The role calls for 5 to 9 years of relevant experience.
