About the Judicial Office and Team
The Judicial Office (JO), reporting to the Lady Chief Justice, was established to support the judiciary in delivering impartial and efficient justice under the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. It is an Arm’s Length Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice and works closely with HM Courts & Tribunals Service, MoJ, government bodies, and the legal professions. The role supports the Senior President of Tribunals (SPT), who leads the tribunals judiciary across multiple jurisdictions including Scotland and Northern Ireland, overseeing approximately 5,000 judicial office-holders with the Deputy Senior President of Tribunals (DSPT).
The SPT’s Private Office plays a key role in strategic advice, governance coordination, and engagement with external stakeholders. The office also handles operational support including correspondence management, publications, and day-to-day administration to ensure smooth functioning.
Role Summary
This role is based in the Royal Courts of Justice, London, with an eligibility for hybrid working requiring at least 60% presence onsite. The Executive Assistant (EA) will manage the demanding diaries of the SPT and DSPT, handle the Private Office shared mailbox, triage requests, support correspondence, provide secretarial support for meetings, coordinate judicial visits and logistics, and maintain judicial robe stock.
The position requires working closely with judiciary clerks and various teams across the justice system and occasionally demands longer hours and travel to accompany the senior judiciary to events and court visits. Reduced hours working is not suitable for this role.

- Management and triage of incoming Private Office emails to appropriate team members.
- Assisting with drafting and responding to correspondence on behalf of the Private Office.
- Organizing meetings, coordinating visitors, preparing/distributing papers, and taking minutes for key boards including the Tribunals Judicial Executive Board.
- Arranging travel, accommodation, and on-site preparations for tribunal visits across England and Wales.
- Overseeing judicial robe inventory and fulfillment of requests.
- General administrative duties supporting smooth Office functions.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent organizational skills combined with meticulous attention to detail.
- Capability to independently manage workload and prioritize effectively among competing demands.
- Ability to work flexibly and respond quickly to changing situations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across multiple teams.
- Preferred experience includes prior work in a private office supporting senior leaders and familiarity with judiciary or magistracy contexts.

Successful candidates must pass a counter-terrorist background check and meet required security standards including a criminal record check and baseline personnel security checks.
The role offers a salary of £33,551 annually, with an additional employer pension contribution of £9,719 through the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Benefits include flexible working options, inclusive working culture, annual leave and public holidays, season ticket advance, and opportunities for development.
The Civil Service promotes diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion and participates in disability confident schemes. This vacancy is broadly open to UK nationals and various groups with the right to work in the UK including EU nationals under certain conditions.
Work Conditions
The nature of judicial Private Office support requires some work outside standard hours, including early mornings and late evenings, aligned with judiciary commitments.
