Job description

Role overview

Lift Broadlands is seeking an Exams Officer to join its small and welcoming secondary school in Keynsham, Bristol. This is a full-time, permanent position with a start date in September. The school serves students aged 11 to 16 and is known for its inclusive approach, supportive culture, and strong standing in the local community.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this position is aligned to SCP 19 to SCP 23, ranging from £32,061 to £34,434. In addition to pay, the package includes access to the LGPS pension, a wellbeing cash plan, and a wider range of benefits offered by Lift Schools.

Additional perks include structured training and development, healthcare and financial support options, and lifestyle discounts such as reduced gym memberships and travel offers.

About the school

Lift Broadlands is a small mixed comprehensive school with a nurturing environment and a commitment to helping every student thrive. Led by Principal Laura Stone, the school aims to raise aspirations, widen horizons, and foster a lasting love of learning. It is located near Bath and North East Somerset, with good transport connections to Bristol and nearby areas. The school has an Ofsted Good rating and strong links with the local community.

What the role involves

The Exams Officer will play a key part in organising, administering, and overseeing the public examinations process. The position also includes coordination of internal exams, support for exam-related planning, and liaison with examination boards and colleagues to ensure arrangements run smoothly.

Key duties

  • Coordinate the day-to-day administration of public examinations.
  • Liaise with exam boards and internal staff on timetables, scheduling, and special arrangements.
  • Oversee the release and handling of public exam results.
  • Support the planning and delivery of internal examinations.
  • Prepare seating plans, organise venues, and assist with invigilation arrangements.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders, including students and staff, in a busy school environment.

What the school is looking for

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, capable of leading a team, and able to balance competing priorities effectively. Prior experience in an examinations role within education would be useful, though it is not essential if you can demonstrate transferable skills. Experience in timetabling would be an advantage, and knowledge of special exam arrangements for students with SEND is desirable.

You should be confident managing your own workload, working under pressure, and coordinating several priorities at once.

Safeguarding and recruitment checks

Lift Schools places safeguarding at the centre of its recruitment process. The successful candidate will be expected to complete online checks, provide references, and, where required, undergo an Enhanced DBS check and a prohibition from teaching check. The organisation follows a fair and consistent hiring process in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.

The school welcomes applications from people seeking job-share, part-time, or flexible working arrangements. It is also a Disability Confident Employer and guarantees an interview for disabled candidates who meet the minimum selection criteria.

Additional information

Candidates may request a confidential conversation or a visit to the school before applying by contacting Jessica Billows, Recruitment Manager, at jbillows@liftschools.org. The vacancy may close early if a large number of applications is received. Applicants are encouraged to review the job description and person specification carefully before applying.
