Job description

Role overview

This is an unusual opportunity for an Attendance Officer to join a welcoming secondary school environment. The post is based at Lift Broadlands in Keynsham, Bristol, and is focused on improving attendance so students have the best possible opportunity to succeed.

About the school

Lift Broadlands is a compact, mixed, fully inclusive secondary school for students aged 11 to 16. The school has a strong reputation locally, is rated Good by Ofsted, and works closely with the surrounding community. It aims to raise ambitions, widen horizons, and build a lasting enthusiasm for learning. The school is led by Principal Laura Stone and benefits from strong transport connections to Bristol and nearby areas.

What the role involves

Working within the pastoral team, the Attendance Officer will oversee attendance monitoring across the school, support learners whose attendance is a concern, and help put in place interventions that encourage better attendance. The role also involves working closely with internal colleagues and outside agencies, while building effective communication between staff and parents to improve attendance both for individuals and across the school as a whole.

What you need

The school is looking for someone who has experience handling large volumes of data accurately, can analyse information to support decisions, and communicates clearly with a range of stakeholders. Knowledge of attendance-related legislation, welfare, child protection, and the external organisations that support attendance in education would be an advantage. Candidates with relevant experience in education should make sure this is clearly covered in their supporting statement.

Working pattern and contract

This is a full-time, permanent position with a September start. The job is based onsite at the school in Bristol.

Safeguarding and recruitment

The organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to uphold this responsibility. Recruitment follows Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance and shortlisted candidates will be subject to online checks. Any offer will depend on an enhanced DBS check, references, and, where relevant, a prohibition from teaching check. The school trust values diversity and equality of opportunity, and flexible arrangements such as job share or part-time working may be considered. Candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum criteria are guaranteed an interview under the Disability Confident scheme.

Additional information

If you would like a confidential conversation before applying, or would like to arrange a tour of the school, you can contact the Recruitment Manager, Jessica Billows, by email. The employer may close the vacancy early if enough applications are received. Applicants are advised to review the job description and person specification carefully before submitting an application.
