Job description

Role overview

This position involves assessing candidate responses for the International GCSE Information & Communication Technology (2017 Specification) qualification. Marking must follow the published mark scheme closely and comply with recognition conditions and exam procedures. Most scripts are marked online through ePEN, which can be completed from home, while a small number of subjects are still assessed using paper scripts posted to the examiner.

The role requires strong subject expertise so that marking is applied accurately and consistently. Each examiner is assigned a set number of scripts to review.

Responsibilities

  • Assess responses precisely and consistently so that marking standards remain uniform.
  • Send required sample scripts to the Team Leader at the specified times.
  • Keep up with marking milestones and complete work within the expected timelines.
  • Finish all administrative tasks exactly as instructed.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least one academic year of teaching experience is required, gained within the last 8 years.
  • The teaching experience must be in the relevant subject area.
  • The experience must be from after qualifying as a teacher.
  • A degree or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • The applicant must be a qualified teacher.

Competencies required

  • Ability to stay effective and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong time management and the ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Deep subject knowledge needed to apply the mark scheme correctly.

Additional information

The main marking window runs from May to July. Examiner training is scheduled between May and June.
