Job description
Overview
This fixed-term Events Officer opportunity is intended to cover maternity leave and sits within a global events team in Group Communications. It is a 6–12 month temporary assignment based in Derby, Bristol, or London. The role offers exposure to a fast-moving international events environment within a major engineering organisation, with the chance to contribute meaningfully from the outset.
Role Purpose
As Events Officer, you will support the delivery of high-quality internal and external events across the organisation. The position involves helping execute events end to end, ensuring they reflect the company’s corporate story, achieve strong impact, and are delivered on schedule and within budget.
This is a strong fit for someone who is organised, proactive, and motivated by creating polished event experiences. The role also provides the chance to collaborate across business areas, engage with senior stakeholders, and gain broad exposure to strategic communications in a complex global business.
What You Will Do
You will contribute to event planning, delivery, delegate experience, content alignment, and event review activities. The work includes logistical coordination, supplier management, budget tracking, stakeholder support, and post-event analysis.
Support for Event Planning and Delivery
- Assist with the full event cycle, including logistics, venue arrangements, supplier coordination, and on-the-day support.
- Help manage event budgets by monitoring spend and raising purchase orders accurately and promptly.
- Keep the central events schedule current and organised so the team can plan and prioritise effectively.
- Work with internal teams and stakeholders to make sure all event requirements are captured and delivered.
Delegate and Stakeholder Experience
- Serve as a main contact for delegates and internal stakeholders, responding to queries professionally and without delay.
- Support the preparation and briefing of leaders and speakers before events, coordinating with Communications Business Partners on key messages.
- Promote a consistently strong delegate experience, ensuring each interaction reflects the organisation’s standards and values.
Content and Brand
- Check that all event assets, such as signage, presentations, and supporting materials, follow the organisation’s visual identity standards.
- Work with the Content and Channels team to help extend event reach through social media, internal communications, and media activity.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
- Measure event outcomes against agreed indicators such as attendance, delegate feedback, and post-event coverage.
- Prepare evaluation summaries and share insights that support ongoing improvement across the events function.
- Contribute ideas and support refinements to team tools, processes, and working practices as the function continues to develop.
Additional Information
The post may involve international travel. The wider events function is a global team with members based across the UK, US, and Germany. It was established in 2023 and manages a broad event portfolio that includes major airshows, trade exhibitions, leadership conferences, press launches, and government events.
The selection process may include an online assessment in certain locations, and this may cover cognitive and behavioural aptitude testing relevant to the role. If needed, full instructions for next steps will be shared.
The organisation describes itself as committed to a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace where individuality is valued and diverse perspectives support innovation.
