Position Overview

The Environmental Services Attendant is tasked with ensuring that the Dorma Distribution Centre maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic atmosphere. Responsibilities include the cleaning and sanitization of storage zones, loading areas, offices, welfare facilities, equipment, and communal workspaces. This role supports operational efficiency by adhering to health, safety, sanitation, and waste management standards, protecting stored items and maintaining smooth warehouse activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily maintenance of outdoor spaces such as yards, loading bay aprons, access roads, perimeter zones, and walkways.
  • Sweep, wash, and clear dirt, debris, mud, oil residues, and litter from external surfaces and pathways to ensure safety and orderliness.
  • Clean and maintain external sanitation facilities including toilets, latrines, and handwashing stations to meet hygiene standards.
  • Ensure outdoor drainage systems and gutters remain clean and functional to prevent flooding, blockages, and pest infestations.
  • Remove waste materials including scrap, damaged pallets, packaging debris, and unused items from outside warehouse areas according to disposal protocols.
  • Manage waste disposal zones by replacing trash liners and organizing waste collection points.
  • Perform basic landscaping tasks such as weed removal, grass cutting, and trimming shrubs and trees within facility boundaries.
  • Monitor and restock hygiene materials like soap, sanitizer, and tissues at outdoor sanitation sites.
  • Observe the condition and availability of cleaning tools and equipment for external tasks, reporting shortages or damage promptly.
  • Comply fully with occupational health and safety rules for outdoor and industrial environments, consistently using personal protective equipment.
  • Identify and report environmental hazards, safety issues, structural damage, spills, pest problems, or drainage concerns in external zones.
  • Respond swiftly to urgent cleaning demands or environmental incidents near facility perimeter or outdoor areas.
  • Maintain cordial and professional interactions with warehouse employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors encountered during duties.
  • Collaborate effectively with environmental service and operations teams to uphold site cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Perform any other related tasks assigned by supervisors or operations leads as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Educational qualifications include WASSCE; credentials related to waste management, environmental hygiene, or Infection Prevention and Control are advantageous.
  • Candidates must have at least two years of practical experience in a similar role within warehouse settings in Sierra Leone.
  • Knowledgeable in waste handling techniques and safety protocols is a beneficial asset.

  • Demonstrates strong initiative and self-drive with dedication to teamwork and humanitarian ideals.
  • Exhibits flexibility, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn from peers.
  • Disciplined with a serious approach towards Environmental Services duties.
  • Effectively communicates with professionalism; proficiency in Krio is required, English competence is a plus.
  • Shows interest in social justice, healthcare, and prioritizing vulnerable populations.
  • Adheres to instructions well, collaborates within teams, maintains reliability and confidentiality.
