Job description
Role Overview
QatarEnergy is seeking an Environmental Lead with a focus on land and waste to steer corporate environmental policy and technical guidance across the organisation. The role is centered on building, updating, and communicating company-wide requirements for remediation, waste handling, waste reduction, and resource recovery, while ensuring these frameworks remain effective and fit for purpose.
Core Purpose
This position provides specialist leadership in land remediation, waste management, minimization of waste, resource recovery, and compliance. It also involves assessing how well programs, work processes, and technologies perform in relation to waste management across QatarEnergy facilities and the State.
Experience and Professional Background
- A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the oil and gas sector is required, gained through direct, consulting, or regulatory work.
- Strong exposure to remediation, waste management, compliance reviews, auditing, and reporting frameworks is expected, including legal, corporate, and management system compliance.
- The role calls for sound analytical ability and a solid understanding of how environmental regulations are implemented in the oil and gas industry.
- Applicants should have hands-on experience preparing standards, procedures, specifications, and formal reports.
- Experience in creating waste inventories, conducting waste audits, and working with waste management and remediation technologies is highly desirable.
- Prior involvement in designing, implementing, and following up on emission reduction plans and programs is required.
- The candidate must be able to apply professional judgment through original and practical approaches that strengthen internal controls.
- Excellent English writing and communication skills are essential, while Arabic language knowledge would be an advantage.
- The role requires the ability to influence and motivate operational teams effectively.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in the full MS Office suite, is necessary.
- Comfort working with cross-functional teams and flexibility in task assignments are important for success in this position.
Education
A BSc in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field is required. A postgraduate degree or diploma in a similar discipline is preferred, though equivalent experience may also be considered.
