Job description

Primary Purpose of the Role

Responsible for ensuring the safe and effective export of crude oil from the Halul Terminal, while providing expert marine support and advice to other departments within QatarEnergy and associated Joint Ventures. This guidance supports the achievement of both short-term and long-term business objectives.

Marine Activity Oversight

Supervise and regulate marine operations within QatarEnergy's offshore fields near Halul and throughout Halul Harbour. Ensure all activities comply fully with offshore and international marine regulations, including but not limited to Collision Regulations, MARPOL, ISM codes, ISGOTT standards, and established safe working procedures.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Prior, recognized experience in pilotage roles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of national and international maritime regulations and legislation.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience qualifying for a Class I Certificate of Competence, ideally including experience within oil and gas sector operations.
  • Familiarity with multiple marine disciplines beyond tanker operations is beneficial, such as general cargo vessels, heavy lift ships, rig transportation, chartering, offshore oil operations, marine inspections, investigations, and consultancy work.

Educational Credentials

  • Must hold an Unlimited Foreign Going Class I (Ship Masters) Certificate of Competency issued by or equivalent to the United Kingdom Department of Transport.
  • Possession of Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in Nautical Sciences plus Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Petroleum) endorsement.
  • Current knowledge of shipping business practices, maritime laws, advanced navigation systems, International Chamber of Shipping guidelines, Oil Companies International Maritime Forum recommendations, and ISGOTT regulations.
