Role overview
The Environmental Economist will examine how environmental challenges, sustainability programs, and climate-related policies affect economies and organizations. This role involves research, model building, and analytical work that informs strategic choices across environmental, social, and commercial priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Assess the economic implications of environmental policy, sustainability programs, and climate-related risk.
- Measure the costs, benefits, and broader financial effects of environmental initiatives, projects, and investments.
- Create economic models, projections, and scenario-based analyses to guide decision-making.
- Work with environmental, market, and economic datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities.
- Draft reports, policy summaries, presentations, and actionable recommendations for internal and external audiences.
- Assist with environmental valuation, cost-benefit studies, and impact evaluation work.
- Partner with sustainability, finance, risk, consulting, and policy teams on cross-functional assignments.
- Track changes in regulations, environmental policy, and global sustainability developments.
- Support ESG, climate-risk, and sustainable finance workstreams when relevant.
- Share findings with senior leaders, clients, and project stakeholders.
Required qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Economics, Environmental Economics, Environmental Science, Public Policy, Finance, Sustainability, or a closely related subject is required.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in environmental economics, economic consulting, sustainability analysis, policy research, or a similar field.
- Solid understanding of microeconomics, macroeconomics, environmental economics, and quantitative analysis.
- Hands-on experience in economic modelling, forecasting, and statistical analysis.
- Strong research, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort with Microsoft Excel and data analysis software.
- Ability to juggle multiple research assignments and stakeholder interactions.
- A detail-oriented and collaborative working style.
Preferred background
- A master’s degree in Environmental Economics, Economics, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related area is an advantage.
- Exposure to ESG analysis, climate economics, carbon markets, natural capital valuation, or sustainable finance is beneficial.
- Familiarity with tools such as R, Python, SQL, STATA, Power BI, Tableau, or GIS is a plus.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, climate policy, and international sustainability frameworks would be helpful.
- Experience in consulting, government, research organizations, financial services, or international bodies is advantageous.
