Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled journalist/editor with a proven history of delivering breaking news and insightful analysis across various energy and commodity sectors, including OPEC, the IEA, and global energy trading. The initial focus covers markets west of the Suez Canal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct original reporting and author breaking news stories focused on energy trading, international energy policies, and the intersection of geopolitics and commodities.
  • Analyze and interpret diverse datasets and report information related to energy and commodities markets.
  • Produce short-form video reels to visually explain important energy themes and stories.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, reporters, and price analysts to integrate Dow Jones Energy price assessments and benchmarks into news coverage.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of professional journalism experience within a newsroom environment.
  • A robust portfolio demonstrating breaking news coverage and unique insights within the energy sector, including exclusive interviews with key industry figures.
  • Strong writing, editing, and data analysis skills, with the ability to uncover news through data-driven storytelling.
  • Proficient in source development and well-versed in physical energy markets, commodities trading, and energy trading dynamics.
  • Experience with multimedia storytelling, including video content creation.
  • Comfortable using NewsPress content management systems.
  • Some data journalism capabilities including identifying new datasets and trends relevant to energy markets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate effectively with news leadership, data visualization teams, and price reporters.
