Job description
About the Organisation
The Salvation Army is a faith-based movement and among Australia’s best-known charitable organisations. Its mission is centred on practical support that improves lives, strengthens communities, and creates better futures. The organisation responds to a wide range of needs, from personal hardship to wider community distress, by offering care, safety, connection, and opportunity.
About the Role
This opportunity is for an Employment Consultant within the Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) program. The role is based in the Devonport and Burnie regions and involves supporting people in surrounding areas as they work towards sustainable employment.
Unlike more traditional employment service models, this program is designed to allow for smaller caseloads, stronger relationship building, and a greater focus on meaningful outcomes. The position suits someone who wants to make a genuine impact while working in a team that is supportive and people-focused.
What You’ll Do
- Develop encouraging, trust-based relationships with IEA participants.
- Support participants with resumes, job applications, and interview preparation.
- Engage with local employers to identify suitable vacancies and advocate for participants.
- Continue providing support after a participant starts employment.
- Refer participants to training providers, allied health professionals, and community support services when needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support quality service delivery.
What Makes This Program Different
- A smaller participant load, allowing more time for genuine one-to-one support.
- Greater emphasis on quality outcomes rather than high-volume service delivery.
- More personalised, hands-on guidance and relationship-focused employment support.
About You
You are someone who enjoys working with people and wants to contribute to positive change. This role may suit an experienced Employment Consultant who prefers a more supportive and relationship-led environment, or someone coming from customer service, call centre, face-to-face service, human resources, community services, teaching, or a similar field where strong professional relationships were built quickly.
To succeed, you should be a confident communicator who is motivating, organised, resilient, and steady under pressure. A current driver’s licence and access to your own car are required, as travel between sites across the region is part of the role. A pool vehicle is available for outreach travel.
What’s Offered
- Permanent full-time employment with above-market pay and not-for-profit salary packaging.
- The option to work full-time hours across a 9-day fortnight or accrue a monthly rostered day off.
- Comprehensive onboarding training and continued professional development.
- Access to discounted fitness memberships, private health insurance, and retail benefits.
- Purchased leave options, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and up to 5 days of paid volunteering leave with Salvos.
- Free counselling and wellbeing support initiatives.
- Clear long-term career pathways within Employment Plus and the broader Salvation Army network.
