Job description

Role Overview

As an Emergency Call Taker, you will be a crucial first point of contact for individuals facing serious emergencies. From coordinating life-saving responses to guiding callers through urgent crises, your calm demeanor, clear communication, and compassion are essential in these high-pressure moments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and manage emergency calls with focus and empathy.
  • Ask pertinent questions to accurately assess situations and provide reassurance.
  • Support callers through diverse scenarios, including critical medical emergencies and non-life-threatening situations.
  • Work collaboratively within a fast-paced emergency operations center.

Requirements and Eligibility

  • Must be aged 18 or older.
  • Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
  • Capability to maintain resilience and emotional awareness during challenging calls.
  • Possess compassion, confidence, and clear communication skills.
  • No previous medical experience required; training provided starting September 2026.

Additional Details

  • Position is based onsite at the Emergency Operations Centre, Southern House HQ, Otterbourne, Hampshire; remote work is not available.
  • Flexible working hours subject to business needs, with both full-time and part-time shifts offered.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting pay at 1317 per hour.
  • Generous NHS pay enhancements: 35% uplift for Saturdays and weekday nights (up to 1778/hr) and 69% uplift for Sundays and bank holidays (up to 2226/hr).
