Job description
Role summary
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a personable and patient-centred booking officer to support the Elective and Diagnostic Team at Frimley Park Hospital. This position suits someone who works well in a busy team, handles pressure confidently, and consistently aligns with the Trust’s values in day-to-day work.
The role is varied and time-sensitive, so you’ll need to stay organised, manage several priorities at once, and keep a strong focus on accuracy. Clear communication, adaptability, and the ability to work to demanding deadlines are important for success.
You’ll be dealing with patients, clinical teams, and colleagues across the organisation, so a proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and confidence to use your own initiative are all essential.
Visa sponsorship
This post cannot be sponsored under the Skilled Worker route. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK for the entire length of the contract.
Main purpose of the role
The successful applicant will handle appointment bookings across all Trust locations and contribute to the setup and ongoing review of both new and existing appointment systems. The position also supports the Trust in meeting its targets and requires a consistently high standard of customer service for patients as well as internal and external stakeholders.
Working environment
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust describes itself as an inclusive, disability-confident employer with Gold recognition under the Armed Forces Employment Recognition Scheme. The organisation offers development opportunities across professional, managerial, leadership, and clinical training areas.
The Trust places strong value on work-life balance and aims to support flexible working wherever possible, recognising that individual needs and service requirements may vary.
About the Trust
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust serves more than 900,000 people across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, and South Buckinghamshire. The Trust’s FHFT 2030 strategy focuses on becoming both the best place to receive care and the best place to work in the NHS, supported by values centred on excellence, teamwork, future-focused thinking, and compassionate care.
The organisation continues to invest in new facilities and service improvements, including a new hospital at Frimley Park, expanded diagnostics and inpatient capacity, and wider transformation across its sites. Recent developments include the Heatherwood Hospital, the Emergency Assessment Centre at Wexham Park, and upgraded maternity services.
Sustainability is also a major priority, with estate projects designed to be energy efficient and environmentally responsible, supported by renewable energy and intelligent energy systems. The Trust’s green plan is intended to reduce environmental impact while supporting better population health and wellbeing.
Digital improvement is another key theme, with the Epic electronic patient record launched in 2024 helping to support safer, more joined-up, and more efficient care, while also saving time and carbon.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should have GCSE English and Maths at pass level, or an equivalent qualification, and ECDL or an equivalent standard. NVQ Level 2 in Administration is desirable, although practical equivalent knowledge will also be considered.
Relevant experience includes work in a hospital or other busy office setting, handling challenging patient interactions, and some background in customer care. Call centre experience and NHS experience are both advantageous but not mandatory.
Skills and knowledge
The role calls for strong verbal and written communication, close attention to detail, accuracy, resilience under pressure, the ability to work independently, and excellent customer service. Experience using telephones and working to targets is also important.
