Job description

Position Overview

The District of West Vancouver is seeking Election Officials to support the administration of the local general election scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026. This casual, non-union role involves assisting voters and managing voting locations efficiently on General Voting Day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the voting site, including arranging voting booths and displaying relevant signs and notices.
  • Confirm voter eligibility by checking names on the voters' list, updating registrations, registering new voters, and verifying identification.
  • Clearly explain the voting procedure to voters and distribute ballots accordingly.
  • Provide assistance to voters as needed throughout the voting process.
  • Help with packing up voting materials and closing the site after voting concludes.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Legally authorized to work in British Columbia.
  • Responsible for personal transportation to and from the assigned voting place.
  • Attendance at a mandatory one-hour training session during the week of September 21-25, 2026.
  • Must not be related to any candidate participating in the election.
  • Must not be actively employed by any election campaign or candidate involved in the election.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with voters and explain election procedures clearly.
  • Capability to understand and follow detailed written instructions and checklists.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of election processes and the Local Government Act provisions related to elections is an asset.

Work Details

  • Status: Casual, non-union position.
  • Working hours on General Voting Day are approximately 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. or until all duties are complete.
  • Mandatory training session of one hour will be scheduled prior to voting day.

Compensation

  • Pay rate for General Voting Day: $320.00.
  • Additional training fee: $50.00.
