Overview

The South Carolina Department of Education is dedicated to serving students, supporting educators, empowering parents, and involving the community to ensure every student graduates with full preparedness to achieve their potential.

Job Purpose and Responsibilities

This role supports the effective application of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) statewide by acting as the State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR) Coordinator and serving as the primary contact for local educational agency (LEA) determinations and their accompanying tiered support systems.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with department staff and stakeholders to gauge LEA adherence to IDEA mandates through SPP/APR submissions and provide training on IDEA implementation.
  • Develop, compile, analyze, and report on programmatic data and stakeholder feedback necessary for IDEA SPP/APR submissions.
  • Contribute to the State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP) team by preparing documentation, collecting and analyzing relevant data, and reviewing procedures to enhance planning and execution.
  • Manage South Carolina's IDEA LEA determination process along with the associated tiered technical assistance framework.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned within the Office of Special Education Services.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess at minimum a bachelor's degree paired with relevant experience in education, business, or management.

Preferred candidates will hold a master's degree or higher, have at least four years of hands-on experience implementing IDEA at the district or state level, and demonstrate expertise in analyzing IDEA data including SPP/APR reports.
