Dyeing Manager - Wool & Silk Dyeing (Rugs & Carpets)

Role Overview

A handknotted rugs and carpets export business in Jaipur is looking for a seasoned Dye Manager to take charge of wool and silk yarn/fabric dyeing operations. This position calls for deep practical exposure to dye house functions within the rugs and carpets sector, along with the ability to manage production, improve processes, and guide a technical team.

What You Will Handle

• Oversee the full dye house workflow, including laboratory work, the colour kitchen, and bulk yarn dyeing.
• Create new dyeing formulas in the lab and convert them successfully for large-scale production.
• Manage lab dips, shade approvals, and bulk shade matching according to customer and design needs.
• Run open-vat and charka dyeing activities while keeping output consistent and efficient.
• Supervise dyeing for wool, cotton, nylon, polyester, acrylic, and blended yarns.
• Maintain accurate shade consistency and minimise batch-to-batch colour variation.
• Track key process parameters such as temperature, pH, liquor ratio, dye dosage, and timing.
• Handle colour kitchen operations, including weighing dyes, preparing recipes, dispensing chemicals, and maintaining inventory.
• Support and oversee colour lab activities, including spectrophotometer use and colour evaluation.
• Ensure the plant can run smoothly at a daily output of around 1,500 kg.
• Carry out colour fastness and quality checks to meet customer expectations and international standards.
• Identify dyeing issues, troubleshoot defects, reduce rework, and limit shade mismatch.
• Work closely with production, weaving, tufting, finishing, and quality teams to meet timelines.
• Maintain SOPs, safety practices, chemical handling procedures, and ETP compliance.
• Watch dye and chemical consumption and implement cost-saving measures.
• Train, lead, and develop dye house operators, lab technicians, and colour kitchen staff.
• Support ongoing improvement efforts to raise productivity, quality, and operational performance.

Technical Expertise Needed

• Strong knowledge of yarn dyeing methods and dye chemistry.
• Experience in laboratory recipe creation and lab dip development.
• Hands-on control of bulk dyeing operations.
• Practical exposure to open-vat and charka dyeing.
• Ability to match shades accurately and manage colour kitchen operations.
• Familiarity with acid, reactive, disperse, and metal complex dyes.
• Experience with spectrophotometer-based colour assessment.
• Knowledge of QA/QC practices in dyeing and colour fastness testing.
• Understanding of chemical inventory control and process optimisation.
• Exposure to rug and carpet dyeing processes.

Candidate Profile

The role suits an experienced textile dyeing professional with strong colour judgment, analytical thinking, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. You should be comfortable leading teams, planning production, making decisions under pressure, and maintaining a strong quality focus.

Eligibility and Education

Applicants should have a Diploma or B.Tech in Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, or Dyeing, and should bring 8 to 25 years of relevant experience in yarn dyeing. Experience in rugs, carpets, home textiles, or textile processing is preferred. This role is mandatory for candidates with experience in rugs and carpets export houses.
