About QT Wellington
QT Wellington is a bold and expressive hotel that blends art, luxury, technology, and indulgence. Positioned in the centre of New Zealand’s creative capital, it attracts culturally minded visitors from around the world and is known for its distinctive design, lively atmosphere, and ever-changing energy.
About the Role
This position is suited to someone who enjoys a fast-moving, guest-centred setting and is comfortable taking ownership from the front. As Duty Manager, you will manage day-to-day hotel activity when the Front Office Manager is unavailable, keeping operations aligned across departments, ensuring guests receive an excellent experience, and supporting strong overall performance.
During your shift, you will act as the hotel’s visible point of leadership, representing QT’s character and EVT’s Daymaker approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct hotel activity during assigned shifts and make sure different departments work together efficiently.
- Guide and support the Front Office team so service standards remain high.
- Serve as the main contact for guest issues and handle concerns promptly, tactfully, and professionally.
- Keep track of staffing, appearance standards, and punctuality across departments.
- Record shift details accurately, including incidents and operational notes.
- Support occupancy and revenue goals through smart pricing and yield management actions.
- Look for opportunities to increase sales of hotel services and facilities.
- Follow workplace health and safety, security, and crisis response procedures.
- Assist with coaching, training, and performance discussions for team members.
- Protect the hotel’s brand standards and safeguard its assets.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in hotel operations, preferably with leadership exposure in Front Office.
- Confident leadership ability and sound judgment when making decisions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- A strong focus on guest satisfaction and the ability to resolve concerns calmly and professionally.
- Commercial understanding, including revenue and yield management principles.
- Familiarity with hotel systems, WH&S obligations, and emergency procedures.
- A proactive, improvement-oriented approach and the ability to solve problems effectively.
How You Work
- You bring a Daymaker attitude and understand that every task matters when shaping the guest experience.
- You lead inclusively and help create teams that are supportive and diverse.
- You are comfortable being hands-on and leading directly on the floor.
- You stay steady under pressure and respond quickly with practical solutions.
Perks from Day One
From your first day, you gain access to Elevate Perks as part of EVT.
- Half-price accommodation and dining across EVT hotels, including QT, Rydges, Atura, LyLo, and more.
- Discounted movie tickets for $2, plus savings on Gold Class, Moonlight Cinema, and Candy Bar.
- Seasonal benefits at Thredbo.
- Opportunities for fast career progression across EVT’s hotel and entertainment network.
- Paid parental leave, along with community and volunteering opportunities.
Additional Information
Applicants are asked to submit a CV and a brief cover letter. Applications are assessed as they are received, so early submission is encouraged. Candidates who apply will be directed to EVT’s secure careers portal, powered by Dayforce, where they will complete a few short screening questions.
