Job description

About the role

Octopus Energy Services is expanding its field team in Wrexham and nearby areas to support the move toward cleaner, more affordable energy. The business focuses on in-home technologies such as smart meters, EV chargers, low-carbon heating, home batteries and solar solutions, with the goal of helping customers cut carbon and take greater control of their energy use.

As a Domestic Surveyor, you will visit customers in their homes, assess properties for suitable low-carbon upgrades, and help translate technical findings into clear recommendations and quotes. This role suits someone who enjoys customer interaction, can work accurately in the field, and is enthusiastic about renewable technology.

You will be trained at the company’s £10 million learning and R&D centre so you can confidently explain the technology and support customers through the process. The position is based in Wrexham and surrounding areas.

What you will do

  • Carry out home visits and survey properties to determine suitability for heat pumps, solar PV, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, or Energy Performance Certificates.
  • Collect measurements and other key data needed to complete heat loss calculations and prepare quotes.
  • Make sure the right information is recorded so the design and installation of a low-carbon heating system can be planned correctly.
  • Explain the survey process clearly to customers and confidently advocate for the technology being recommended.
  • Deliver a strong customer experience so homeowners feel informed, supported, and encouraged to improve their homes.
  • Work flexibly and stay resilient in a fast-moving environment.

What you need

  • Proven experience communicating well with customers, preferably in a face-to-face domestic setting.
  • Experience with MCS-accredited organisations or with property assessments related to energy efficiency or insulation is beneficial.
  • Domestic Energy Assessor or Retrofit Assessor qualifications are highly desirable, though not mandatory.
  • Background in discussing home-based work with customers, ideally involving measuring and sizing equipment.
  • Exposure to heat pumps, solar PV, battery storage, or electrical equipment is an advantage.
  • Some mechanical or electrical experience is preferred, but a willingness and ability to learn quickly is essential.
  • Strong IT and digital skills are required, as the company operates in a highly tech-driven way.
  • A full clean driving licence is required, with no more than 6 points.

Benefits

  • Basic salary of £29,700, plus progression opportunities.
  • £2,500 bonus.
  • £25 per week lunch allowance.
  • £50 retainer for working an additional day each week.
  • Shares in Octopus Energy Group.
  • Company electric vehicle.
  • Use of company tools.
  • Uniform and personal protective equipment provided.
