Job description

Role overview

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is investing in stronger financial leadership to support its divisional structure. This senior position is the last of five Divisional Head of Finance roles and sits within Corporate Services.

As a senior member of the divisional management team, you will help ensure services are delivered effectively within the resources available. The role combines financial leadership with strategic advice to support operational and clinical decisions.

This is an opportunity to influence high-level decision-making and contribute to the development of modern, patient-focused services across Frimley Health.

Applications are encouraged from experienced senior finance leaders with strong strategic, analytical, and leadership capability.

Main purpose of the role

You will shape and implement financial strategy, policy, and performance management, while promoting value-for-money across the Trust. Working across Wexham Park, Frimley Park, and Heatherwood, you will provide strategic direction, professional financial expertise, and operational oversight to maintain strong governance and control.

The post involves leading continuous improvement, developing a high-performing team, and helping build financial plans that support sustainable, high-quality care. It is suited to a CCAB-qualified finance professional who enjoys working in a complex setting and wants to make a meaningful contribution within the NHS.

Responsibilities

The attached job description contains the full list of duties, including administrative and organisational work, involvement in social and digital media development and monitoring, and forward planning.

Organisation and culture

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is an inclusive employer and a Disability Confident organisation. It has also received Gold recognition under the Armed Forces Employment Recognition Scheme. The Trust offers a broad range of development opportunities, including professional, management, leadership, and clinical skills training.

The organisation places importance on work-life balance and welcomes applications from people seeking flexible working arrangements. Flexible working may include different patterns and hours, and the Trust aims to work with staff to meet both individual needs and service requirements.

Trust context

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has a strong reputation and serves more than 900,000 people across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, and South Buckinghamshire. Its strategic ambition, FHFT 2030, is to be the best place to receive care and the best place to work in the NHS, supported by values of Committed to Excellence, Working Together, Facing the Future, and being a modern, compassionate healthcare organisation.

The Trust continues to invest in services and facilities, including a new hospital at Frimley Park, expanded diagnostics and inpatient capacity, and ongoing service transformation across its sites. Recent developments include the £100m Heatherwood Hospital, the £49m Emergency Assessment Centre at Wexham Park, and a £10m maternity services upgrade.

Sustainability is also a major focus, with estate developments designed to support the NHS Net Zero ambition through renewable energy, intelligent energy systems, and environmentally responsible design. The Trust’s green plan aims to embed sustainable practice throughout care and operations.

Digital innovation is another key priority. The Epic electronic patient record, launched in 2024, is helping create safer, more connected, and more efficient care pathways while saving time and carbon and improving quality of care.

All activity is guided by the Trust’s values, supporting patient care, colleague wellbeing, and a sustainable future for healthcare.

Qualifications and experience

Essentially, you must be CCAB qualified or hold an equivalent qualification. A Master’s degree, or equivalent demonstrable work experience, is desirable. ECDL is also listed as desirable.

The role calls for extensive senior-level experience in a large and complex organisation, including experience of delivering demanding financial plans and major cost-reduction programmes. You should also bring substantial senior management experience, a track record of long-term strategy implementation, and experience of working with staff, staff representatives, and trade unions or professional bodies.

Knowledge of NHS policy and major changes in the NHS is desirable.

Skills and knowledge

You should understand the political environment affecting health and social care. The role also requires proven success in service improvement or leading major organisational change in a complex environment.

You will need to influence effectively at all levels, think strategically, analyse complex information and present it clearly, and deliver objectives in a pressured environment with tight deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, and you should be able to communicate in a clear, fluent, and persuasive way.

Knowledge of major national policy issues relevant to services is desirable.
