Role overview
The Department of Treasury and Finance is seeking an Assistant Director to work within Economic Analysis in Darwin. This role focuses on producing high-quality economic research, statistical work, forecasting and policy analysis, while also supporting and developing junior team members.
Key purpose of the role
You will lead advanced analysis across a range of economic and financial modelling activities. The position involves building and reviewing demographic, macroeconomic and revenue models, guiding scenario analysis, and translating complex findings into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers. A significant part of the role is turning quantitative evidence into practical economic narratives for public use.
Core duties
The role includes mentoring junior staff, overseeing technical analysis work, managing model development and quality assurance, and delivering complex policy modelling projects. You will also assess the economic effects of shocks, review modelling received from external sources, and present findings to senior stakeholders in a persuasive and professional manner. In addition, you will help prepare analytical reports and contribute to budget statement development.
