Job description
Overview
This is a senior finance leadership opportunity with a major ASX-listed services group based in Sydney CBD. The position offers ownership of the full divisional finance function, with the remit and breadth more akin to a Divisional CFO role than a traditional finance manager role.
You will lead finance for a flagship division that operates nationally, serves a global client base, and has the scale and complexity to give a finance leader genuine CFO-level exposure. The role has been designed to provide broad accountability across technical finance, commercial partnering, planning, compliance and cash management.
For a finance professional aiming for CFO progression, this is a rare chance to build the kind of end-to-end leadership experience that prepares you for that next step.
Location and package
This role is based in Sydney CBD and offers a total package of $250,000 to $270,000 plus a 20% bonus, along with additional benefits.
What you will own
Reporting to the Group CFO, with a dotted reporting line to the Divisional Managing Director, you will take full accountability for the finance function of the division. The remit includes:
- End-to-end ownership of the division’s profit and loss statement and balance sheet, including management reporting, month-end close, reconciliations and commentary for senior leadership.
- Leadership of forward-looking planning and analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, headcount planning, margin improvement and revenue target tracking across practice groups.
- Strategic partnership with the Managing Director and practice group leaders, helping shape commercial decisions and strengthening the finance function’s influence within the business.
- Oversight of statutory obligations such as income tax, GST, FBT and reporting requirements tied to a listed entity.
- Responsibility for working capital, debtor management, accounts payable and cash flow performance in a high-volume operating environment.
- Leadership and development of a team of around 18 people across financial accounting, accounts payable and credit control, including offshore team members.
- Development of stronger commercial finance capability, including analysis, insight and planning disciplines that support better business decisions.
About the ideal candidate
The successful candidate will be a qualified CPA or CA finance leader with strong technical accounting capability and proven commercial business partnering experience. You should be equally comfortable reviewing month-end results as you are influencing senior stakeholders on business decisions.
This role suits someone who has already led teams, can build trust quickly, and brings a proactive, direct and relationship-driven style. You will be expected to contribute opinion, create credibility through consistency, and help guide the business with practical commercial insight.
This position is well suited to a finance leader who sees a pathway to CFO and wants a role that delivers the breadth required to get there.
