Job Overview

We are seeking a Director of Transportation Management to lead the Managed Transportation division, a critical component of our Third-Party Logistics operations. This leadership role involves strategic transportation planning, carrier relationship management, supply chain optimization, customer interaction, and regulatory compliance oversight, contributing significantly to business growth and operational excellence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate and oversee implementation of transportation management plans aligned with the company's growth objectives.
  • Spot opportunities to boost operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Lead projects focused on designing and improving transportation networks to elevate service quality and minimize expenses.
  • Supervise daily transportation operations including dispatching, route development, load coordination, and freight optimization.
  • Manage the full transportation cycle ensuring timely deliveries and adherence to service agreements.
  • Lead and cultivate a performance-driven transportation team emphasizing accountability and continual improvement.
  • Establish and nurture strong customer relationships through consistent communication and service reviews.
  • Ensure customer management aligns with standardized operating procedures and mutually set service benchmarks.
  • Maintain effective relations with carriers, negotiating contracts to secure optimal terms and performance.
  • Track carrier KPIs to ensure service quality and compliance, intervening to address issues as needed.
  • Oversee financial aspects of the transportation department including budgeting, cost monitoring, and profitability management.
  • Guarantee adherence to federal, state, and local transportation rules and safety regulations including DOT, FMCSA, and Hours of Service.
  • Implement safety and risk management programs fostering a culture of safe transportation operations.
  • Leverage Transportation Management Systems and collaborate with IT and operations to improve technological tools and processes.
  • Stay informed on industry developments to advise the company and clients on improvements and competitive service offerings.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a closely related area; a master's degree is advantageous.
  • At least eight years of progressive experience in transportation management, ideally in third-party logistics.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience building and guiding effective teams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transportation regulations and the ability to ensure compliance.
  • Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems and related software technologies.
  • Strong negotiation, effective communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Data-driven problem-solving skills supported by keen analytical capabilities.
