Job description

Role Overview

The Director of Safety & Security will lead the district's safety and security initiatives by administering strategic planning, development, assessment, and implementation of emergency management programs. This role covers all aspects of mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts within the school environment.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is mandatory.
  • Master's degree is desirable.
  • Texas Principal Certification is preferred.
  • Candidates must hold a clear and valid Texas driver's license.

Expertise and Skills

  • Thorough understanding of school safety protocols, security program development, emergency planning, and risk management strategies.
  • Familiarity with NIMS, ICS, and FEMA emergency management frameworks.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state legislation, regulations, and best practices pertaining to school safety, emergency procedures, health services, and security operations.
  • Capability to design, apply, and review comprehensive district-wide safety measures.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with law enforcement agencies, emergency services, government bodies, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Analytical skills for data review, report generation, and providing well-informed recommendations.
  • Competence in managing budgets, staff, and multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficiency in technology including spreadsheets, databases, emergency communication technologies.
  • Flexibility to work irregular and extended shifts during emergencies and critical events.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in emergency management, risk management, safety and security, school administration, or similar fields; or
  • Alternatively, five years of successful professional teaching experience with current enrollment in or pursuit of Texas principal certification.

Additional Information

This position involves responsibility for safety at building and campus levels, ensuring a secure environment within the school district.
