Role overview
The Director of PR & Communications will shape and safeguard the Fort Lauderdale United FC brand in the media and broader public conversation. This position leads the club’s external messaging, media relations, earned coverage efforts, and broadcast partnership work across all channels.
Key responsibilities
- Guide and support the Media Relations & Press Manager and the Broadcast & Content Partnerships Manager.
- Create and implement the organization’s yearly PR and communications roadmap.
- Act as the club’s main spokesperson and primary point of contact for the press.
- Develop strong working relationships with South Florida sports media outlets, including both English- and Spanish-language contacts.
- Handle executive communications for the Chairman, including statements, opinion pieces, and public-facing appearances.
- Set up and direct crisis communications procedures and response efforts.
- Coordinate communication for major announcements such as the men’s team launch in March 2027, funding updates, facility progress, and player signings.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience in public relations, communications, or journalism, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership position.
- Well-established connections within South Florida media or national sports media.
- Excellent writing ability for press releases, official statements, opinion articles, and executive messaging.
- Proven experience handling communications for sensitive announcements or crisis situations.
Preferred background
- Prior public relations experience in sports, whether with a club, league, or agency.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is strongly preferred, with Univision and Telemundo relationships viewed as an advantage.
- Exposure to broadcast rights or content distribution partnership work is a plus.
Working style and environment
This is a fully in-person, hands-on position within a fast-moving and ambitious organization. The role typically requires about 60 hours per week over six days, and the team culture emphasizes accountability, effort, and long-term growth opportunity.
Compensation
The annual salary range is $54,600 to $66,500, based on experience. The role also qualifies for a performance bonus tied to media coverage, brand visibility, broadcast partnerships, strategic communications work, and completion of important organizational goals.
