Role Overview

The Director of Payroll position is a full-time remote role charged with managing all payroll operations to ensure accurate and punctual employee compensation for clients. Responsibilities encompass the complete payroll lifecycle, including system management, adherence to tax laws, and supervising payroll service coordination across diverse entities and locations. This leadership role includes overseeing the payroll team, instituting best practices, analyzing key performance metrics, and resolving complex payroll challenges like garnishments, modifications, and audits.

Daily tasks involve scrutinizing payroll cycles, confirming data integrity, interacting with clients and internal departments, maintaining thorough documentation, and driving process optimizations to boost efficiency and control. Keeping informed about payroll laws, advising clients on compliance, and contributing to strategic payroll service planning are integral to this role.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in payroll administration and management with experience handling end-to-end payroll processes and leading payroll teams.
  • Familiarity with delivering payroll services, coordinating vendors, and supporting payroll across multiple states/jurisdictions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll tax regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting, with capability to interpret evolving legislation.
  • Practical experience managing complex payroll deductions, including garnishments, while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Strong proficiency in payroll and related HR/financial software; advanced Excel skills are highly valued.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities, with a keen eye for detail and commitment to process enhancement.
  • Capacity to work productively in a remote setting, balancing multiple priorities and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline; professional certifications such as CPP or CPA are advantageous.
