Our client, a well-established SME in Lincoln, England, is renowned for an industry-leading brand delivering high-performance products to the construction, automotive, and trade sectors. Their offerings are stocked by major national retailers and are supported by a fast-expanding UK customer base. With ambitious targets to grow into a £50 million enterprise within three years, this is a critical opportunity to influence the company’s operational future.
They seek an experienced, proactive Operations Director to oversee daily operational performance while establishing robust systems, structures, and processes necessary for sustainable scaling. The role involves leading a cross-functional team across warehouse, supply chain, operations, and customer care to ensure efficient and professional delivery as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operational activities of the business ensuring smooth workflows.
- Provide leadership and guidance to teams in warehouse, supply chain, operations, and customer service.
- Guarantee customer orders, including next-day dispatches and bespoke assemblies, are fulfilled accurately and promptly.
- Enhance operational planning, interdepartmental communication, and workflow efficiency.
- Oversee stock management, supplier performance, and identify operational bottlenecks.
- Implement new systems, operational processes, and key performance indicators to enable growth and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with the sales department to align operational capabilities with business demand.
- Manage priority setting, resource allocation, and resolve operational challenges in a dynamic environment.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives across warehousing, logistics, fulfillment, and customer service departments.
- Support the company through a significant growth phase and operational transformation.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in an Operations Director role or a comparable senior leadership position.
- Strong expertise in warehouse and operations management.
- Background working in small to medium-sized enterprises.
- Demonstrated success in scaling business operations and supporting business growth.
- Skill in deploying structured processes and operational enhancements.
- Excellent organizational and strategic planning abilities.
- Experienced in managing complex supply chains or fulfillment operations.
- Confident leadership with solid people management skills.
- Strong communicator with effective problem-solving aptitude.
- Ideally, a mix of experience in both smaller businesses and larger, more structured organizations.
- Knowledge of industrial products, distribution, engineering, manufacturing, or technical products is advantageous but not mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
Basic annual salary range from £70,000 to £80,000 along with performance-related profit bonuses.
