Job description

Role overview

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a highly capable Director of Operations for Surgery and Anaesthetics to play a central leadership role within the division. This post works closely with clinical and corporate colleagues to help deliver local and national performance expectations, including GIRFT, Model Hospital and CQC standards.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for leading, developing and improving the division’s performance. The role also requires close collaboration across the Trust, as well as with health and social care system partners, to support aligned service delivery.

You will help coordinate operational delivery and performance across the hospital division, supporting service transformation and continuous improvement while maintaining strong governance, financial discipline and regulatory compliance.

This is an opportunity for an experienced operational leader to help drive positive change in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Key accountabilities

  • Support the delivery of services that are safe, high quality and focused on both staff and patient experience.
  • Provide effective support to the Chief Operating Officer and Divisional Director so performance obligations are met, including CQC-related requirements and sound financial control.
  • Promote collaborative working across divisions and within corporate teams so divisional priorities remain aligned to wider organisational goals.
  • Help ensure the division makes full use of digital developments and take a lead role in maintaining confidence in data quality.
  • Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and communicate effectively across them.
  • Work with partners across the local health and social care system to help shape integrated service strategy and deliver sustainable improvement.
  • Develop practical and lasting plans that embed service improvement and support compliance with service standards and regulatory frameworks.

About the Trust

CHFT is an integrated acute and community trust serving communities across Calderdale and Kirklees, with strong links across West Yorkshire. Its culture is built around compassion, kindness and respect, and the organisation’s values emphasise putting people first, going to see, working together to achieve results, and doing the necessary tasks well.

The Trust is also recognised as digitally progressive, using data, innovation and system-wide collaboration to improve quality, safety and outcomes. It has an ambition to contribute strongly to prevention, population health and reducing inequalities, with this role positioned at the centre of that work.
