Medical Examiner Officer

Overview

We are seeking a committed and resourceful individual to support the Medical Examiners at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust by thoroughly reviewing deaths. This role involves collaborating closely with Medical Examiners to evaluate patient mortality while promoting patient safety and supporting bereaved families with empathy and respect.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Medical Examiners by performing initial medical record reviews to understand circumstances and causes of death.
• Work collaboratively with diverse hospital staff while managing workload independently.
• Support bereaved families by explaining causes of death sensitively and accurately.
• Help identify cases requiring further assessment by Mortality Faculty, Structured Judgement Reviews, Child Death Overview Panel, Clinical Governance, and Learning Disability Review Teams.
• Facilitate referrals to coroners for further investigation as authorised by Medical Examiners.

Experience and Skills Required

• Strong familiarity with medical terminology.
• Previous experience in engaging with bereaved relatives in healthcare or related settings.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, with ability to deliver compassionate care.
• Demonstrated evidence of ongoing personal and professional development.
• Aptitude for working both collaboratively and independently.
