Role Overview
The Director of Marketing and Communications will drive the firm's marketing and communication strategies from offices located in New York City, Washington DC, Atlanta, Raleigh, Dallas, Los Angeles, or the San Francisco Bay Area. This leadership role is responsible for crafting HR&A's external and internal narrative, elevating the firm’s brand visibility and supporting business development efforts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and execute strategies that enhance HR&A's brand presence, thought leadership, and participation in key industry discussions aligned with business priorities.
- Lead media relations proactively and reactively with collaboration from public relations agencies and manage external creative vendors.
- Maintain oversight of editorial content calendars, ensuring content alignment with branding across all platforms including the company website and email marketing.
- Collaborate internally to effectively communicate the firm's impact and support digital product launches with coordinated content and communications.
- Develop and manage internal communications to keep employees informed and aligned with strategic goals, including firm-wide updates and major announcements.
- Lead marketing initiatives enhancing brand strength, manage proposal development systems, and oversee workflows to ensure effective messaging and delivery of business pursuits.
- Analyze proposal outcomes to improve future effectiveness and manage an internal system for marketing and communications requests.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably within professional services, consulting, or mission-focused organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing staff, setting priorities, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating growth.
- Exceptional written communication skills, able to translate complex topics into engaging, clear content.
- Strong strategic thinker adept at designing communications that support broad organizational aims.
- Experience with diverse communication channels including digital media, public relations, and internal messaging.
- Excellent organizational capabilities and multitasking skills.
- Proven collaboration skills in working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Expertise in developing and managing proposal systems to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Adept with new technologies and AI tools for improving marketing workflows and content creation.
- Experience managing digital platforms and vendor relationships for web development and email marketing tools such as content management systems and Mailchimp.
- Background in coordinating freelance content creators and editorial professionals.
Work Arrangement and Compensation
HR&A follows a hybrid work model where employees work onsite a minimum of three days per week, balancing flexibility with team connectivity.
The salary range for this position is $131,600 to $153,779 annually, with additional eligibility for a year-end discretionary bonus. Compensation will depend on experience. As an employee-owned firm, HR&A offers participation in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan along with comprehensive healthcare, dental, and vision benefits covering around 90-95% of premiums.
