Position Purpose

The Director of Leadership Giving plays a vital role in shaping and managing our mid-level, major, and planned giving fundraising initiatives. This position oversees a team of three fundraising professionals, driving strategic donor cultivation and ensuring a supportive experience to propel donors towards transformative contributions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement an integrated strategy for mid-level and major donor programs that enhances engagement, retention, and fundraising results.
  • Maintain a personal portfolio managing high-level donors, securing contributions of $10,000+ and multi-year commitments exceeding $50,000.
  • Create customized approaches for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship aligning with donors' interests and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop compelling funding proposals and cases for support.
  • Identify and pursue planned giving prospects, including bequests, gift annuities, and trusts, embedding legacy giving in donor engagements.
  • Lead and mentor a team, setting clear objectives, performance benchmarks, and nurturing a collaborative, high-achieving culture.
  • Work with senior staff, board, and committees to deepen leadership donor relationships and ensure exemplary stewardship and recognition practices.
  • Enhance fundraising infrastructure through improved systems, data-informed strategies, and participation in long-term capital campaign planning.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years progressive experience in major gift fundraising with proven success securing gifts over $100,000.
  • Experience managing and developing fundraiser teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of donor cultivation and pipeline strategies facilitating mid-level to major gift advancement.
  • Familiarity with planned giving vehicles and donor-centric fundraising models.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Passionate about affordable housing and the mission of Habitat Charlotte Region.
  • Bachelor's degree required; CFRE certification or advanced degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms such as Salesforce preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position primarily works in an office environment with occasional travel in the service area. Tasks include prolonged computer and phone use. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively, perform standard office duties, and lift items up to 25 pounds without assistance.
