Job description
Role Overview
The Director of Housekeeping is the senior leader responsible for the full housekeeping function. This role oversees daily operations, sets service and quality standards, and ensures guest rooms are ready on time through close coordination with the Front Office. It also drives ongoing improvement in operating standards so the hotel delivers exceptional service while supporting the department’s long-term financial performance.
Key Duties
- Provide motivating leadership, a clear direction, and strong guidance so the team delivers the brand promise, values, and overall guest experience.
- Oversee housekeeping operations and make sure hotel policies and departmental standards are followed consistently.
- Keep guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces in excellent condition and at the highest cleanliness level.
- Set up and maintain a thorough inspection process for guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
- Work closely with Engineering to support the preventive maintenance program and maintain quality consistency.
- Build productive partnerships with other departments to improve communication and handle operational matters effectively.
- Encourage and empower the team to deliver memorable, personalized service to every guest.
- Include guest satisfaction in departmental discussions and lead initiatives that strengthen engagement and performance.
- Act as a role model for the company culture and service philosophy.
- Take part in the Risk Management Committee and contribute to fire and life safety prevention, as well as crisis and emergency readiness.
- Regularly check in with guests, collect feedback, and use it to improve service and overall stay experience.
- Ensure guest complaints are handled professionally and followed up promptly.
- Review budgets, payroll progress, and inventory spending to support efficient planning and financial forecasting without reducing quality.
- Oversee stock-taking for operating equipment, supplies, linens, uniforms, and other departmental materials.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the external laundry provider to ensure smooth linen flow for operations.
- Coordinate with the Training Manager on SOP implementation, audit preparation, testing, and team training.
- Emphasize the importance of Forbes and LQA standards to support strong audit results.
- Stay updated on VIP and special-attention guest bookings and ensure preferences are clearly shared with the team.
- Promote a healthy work environment through regular team check-ins, an open-door approach, and strong colleague relationships.
- Delegate responsibilities and encourage team members to personalize service in ways that exceed guest expectations.
- Review performance for department managers, give timely feedback, and recognize both achievements and improvement areas.
- Support hiring activities, including interviewing candidates and contributing to succession planning.
- Take an active role in career development and succession planning for team members.
- Maintain a polished, professional senior leadership presence with guests, colleagues, and the hotel.
- Carry out all duties with professionalism, discretion, and a courteous manner.
