Job description
Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Human Resources supports the Director of Human Resources in building and carrying out people strategies that help the hotel attract, keep, and grow a strong and diverse talent base. This role also takes charge of day-to-day HR operations and helps ensure full compliance with hotel policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the team with clarity and motivation, helping deliver the Capella brand promise, values, and guest experience.
- Set the standard for the team by demonstrating Capella’s culture and service philosophy in daily work.
- Support the Director of Human Resources in managing the full HR function and making sure all colleagues follow hotel policies and SOPs as well as corporate requirements.
- Make sure open roles are shared through suitable channels to reach a varied pool of candidates.
- Keep vacancy notices visible for both internal team members and outside applicants.
- Coordinate with local authorities to build and sustain relationships with external recruitment sources.
- Build networks with local groups and professionals such as hotel associations, HR clubs, and university faculty to source candidates for present and future openings.
- Handle internal transfers and promotions, including moves to other properties within the brand.
- Oversee selection and offer processes for hourly colleagues, including proper documentation of selection decisions and applicant notifications.
- Work with department leaders and recruitment specialists to fill management roles, support hiring decisions, and negotiate offers in line with SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with policies covering sexual harassment, non-harassment, non-discrimination, and no solicitation.
- Confirm that interviews follow approved guidelines, use consistent screening standards, and include only job-relevant questions.
- Ensure payroll practices follow SOPs and applicable Thai labor rules, including pay ceilings, minimum wage, entry-level wages, overtime, and separation pay provisions.
- Verify that medical and background screening processes are completed according to brand SOPs.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims with attention to colleague care and cost control.
- Educate colleagues about the benefits package.
- Train the HR team on benefit types and eligibility rules.
- Equip the management team with enough benefits information to explain options and answer common questions.
- Ensure the department has the resources needed to administer colleague benefits properly.
- Help identify the main drivers of colleague satisfaction and support managers in addressing issues through written action plans.
- Track team performance and give timely feedback for improvement, recognition, and appraisals.
- Use recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with HR support when needed, to strengthen performance.
- Take responsibility for individual growth, career development, and succession planning for team members.
- Coach and train team members on all colleague-related HR information.
- Manage complaints and disciplinary issues, maintain proper records, and resolve matters promptly and professionally.
- Present a polished senior-management image to guests, colleagues, and the hotel.
- Carry out duties with discretion, professionalism, and a courteous approach.
- Coach managers on the progressive discipline process.
- Ensure each department and the overall property have active development plans with documented goals and measured progress.
- Use an open-door approach to address colleague concerns quickly and effectively.
- Keep communication channels for colleagues active and effective.
- Review accident trends and share findings with the management team.
- Watch for signs of union activity in the work environment.
- Report issues, damage, and breakdowns in work areas and across the hotel to help maintain defect-free facilities and service amenities.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Business, preferably with a focus on Human Resources Management, and be comfortable using computers and common office tools such as Microsoft Office.
