Job description
Role overview
This leadership position is responsible for guiding the company’s financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and strategic analysis activities. The role acts as a trusted partner to senior leadership by turning financial information into clear recommendations that help shape strategy, improve performance, and support long-term business growth. It also owns the development of budgeting and forecasting routines, financial modeling, and management reporting, while championing automation, analytics, and scalable reporting tools.
Reporting and analysis
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting packs covering profit and loss, variance explanations, and key performance indicators.
- Review actual results against budget and forecast, then explain the major reasons behind performance differences.
- Convert financial data into practical insights that leaders can use for decisions.
Planning and budgeting
- Support the company-wide annual budget and forecasting cycle.
- Work with department leaders to build both bottom-up and top-down budgets.
Business partnering
- Act as a strategic finance advisor to the CEO, President, CFO, and other executives.
- Support business teams with financial decisions and trade-off analysis.
- Assess new initiatives, investment proposals, and cost-reduction opportunities.
Strategic support
- Perform profitability reviews for fixed assets, acquisitions, and other strategic investments.
- Evaluate software and systems acquisition options, including finance requirements, business-case development, and implementation impact assessment.
- Create and present financial updates for the Board, executive leadership, and company town hall meetings.
- Develop specialized decision-support reporting, including profit-sharing analysis.
Team and process leadership
- Document, maintain, and improve accounting and financial planning processes, policies, and procedures.
- Partner with Accounting to keep policy and procedure manuals current and aligned between accounting reporting and FP&A workflows.
- Set and enforce standards for data governance, validation checks, and accounting definitions across financial systems.
Automation and process improvement
- Reduce manual and repetitive finance work by introducing automation tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, Python scripts, or RPA solutions.
- Improve the close and reporting timeline so leadership receives insights faster.
- Build scalable self-service dashboards that let business partners access real-time financial information without depending on the FP&A team.
- Standardize data definitions, hierarchies, and reporting structures across systems to create one reliable source of truth.
- Continuously compare FP&A practices with industry best practices and promote a culture of operational efficiency in finance.
Qualifications and requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration is required; an MBA or other advanced finance degree is preferred.
- CPA or CMA certification is preferred, and FP&A certification is considered an advantage.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in financial reporting.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and reporting cycles under tight deadlines.
- Strong critical-thinking skills with the ability to review data thoroughly and ensure reporting accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP platforms and financial reporting tools.
- Experience leading both remote and on-site team members.
