Overview

The Director of Finance and Accounting will strategize and manage the accounting functions of the organization, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within the Accounting Department. Responsibilities include overseeing the month-end closing processes of the general ledger and managing the preparation of the company’s budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Accounting Department including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain documented accounting policies and procedures, implementing controls to mitigate risk in financial transactions.
  • Guide and enforce financial decision-making policies and procedures.
  • Protect company assets by establishing and monitoring internal controls.
  • Supervise the generation of periodic financial reports in compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP or IFRS.
  • Recommend performance benchmarks and measures for evaluating company success.
  • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts, reporting material variances to management.
  • Provide detailed financial analysis to support executive decisions on capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and facilitate information for annual audits.
  • Manage filing of quarterly and annual financial and corporate reports as required.
  • Oversee state corporate registrations, including SUTA accounts and other mandatory state filings.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Facilitate effective communication and issue escalation amongst all relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across departments to develop and update financial plans, budgets, and procedural documents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration is mandatory.
  • At least ten years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably with a background in Contract Research Organizations (CRO) or the biopharmaceutical sector.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
  • Exceptional organizational and management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
