Position Overview
The Director of Engineering will oversee all aspects of the property’s operational infrastructure. This role is pivotal in maintaining the building’s systems, ensuring safety, compliance, optimal performance, and the delivery of exceptional guest experiences. Responsibilities cover a broad range of technical and managerial duties to uphold the highest standards possible within the hotel environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise the engineering team, handling scheduling, team development, and individual performance reviews.
- Implement robust preventative and reactive maintenance strategies targeting electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and all building-related systems.
- Guarantee full compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental mandates, conducting regular facility inspections and audits.
- Liaise with external vendors and contractors for outsourced repair, maintenance, or renovation initiatives.
- Track and analyze utility consumption, advocating energy efficiency and cost-saving sustainability programs.
- Administer the engineering department’s budget, optimizing expenditure while maintaining exceptional service and safety standards.
- Respond swiftly to any emergencies related to maintenance, minimizing potential disruptions or hazards for guests and staff alike.
- Maintain meticulous records and documentation pertaining to maintenance operations, equipment status, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate closely with other departments to support facility upgrades and new installations.
- Sustain the operational safety and reliability of all technical systems within the property.
Requirements
- Substantial prior experience leading engineering activities in luxury hotels or large-scale facilities.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance practices.
- Demonstrated strengths in team management and leadership.
- Thorough grounding in building codes, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Strong skills in organization and problem-solving.
- Proven track record in managing budgets and working with suppliers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities and comfort collaborating across departments.
- Flexible approach, capable of managing emergencies and adapting to diverse schedules.
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages is beneficial.
- Relevant degree or recognized technical qualification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a similar field.
