Role Overview
As the Director of Ecommerce located in New York, NY, you will take full responsibility for driving and expanding the digital commerce operations and revenue growth. This on-site role encompasses managing the ecommerce profit and loss, setting online sales objectives, and leveraging data-driven strategies in merchandising, pricing, and promotions. You will oversee site performance, user experience, marketing collaborations, and inventory coordination while leading a multidisciplinary team to enhance the customer journey and foster sustained growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage ecommerce revenue generation and profitability, monitoring key performance indicators such as conversion rates, average order value, customer acquisition cost, and return on ad spend.
- Develop and implement annual sales plans and financial forecasts in partnership with finance and planning teams.
- Maintain gross margins by ensuring disciplined pricing, markdown management, and promotion tactics to maximize full-price sales.
- Strategize pricing, product bundling, and merchandising to increase order value and profit margins.
- Discover and exploit additional revenue opportunities including marketplaces, wholesale-to-direct-to-consumer transitions, and subscription models.
- Lead paid and organic marketing strategies across platforms like Meta, Google (Search, Shopping, Performance Max, YouTube), display advertising, and SEO.
- Oversee email and SMS marketing campaigns to enhance customer engagement, retention, and revenue streams.
- Manage customer acquisition and retention with a focus on balancing growth efficiency with long-term customer value and brand loyalty.
- Maintain a consistent and distinct brand voice for Spyder and Venom across all customer interactions.
- Direct affiliate and partnership marketing initiatives as a revenue channel, including prospecting, negotiating, and onboarding new partners.
- Administer affiliate programs on Impact and Trybe platforms, managing tracking, commissions, payouts, and compliance.
- Develop and nurture relationships with top affiliates, influencers, and content collaborators, optimizing terms to ensure margin-positive growth.
- Collaborate with UX, product, and engineering teams to enhance site conversion, mobile functionality, and checkout experience, including leading A/B testing and conversion rate optimization efforts.
- Recruit, mentor, and guide a team encompassing ecommerce, digital marketing, and affiliate management, alongside managing agency and vendor partnerships.
- Work cross-functionally with merchandising, creative, supply chain, customer service, and finance teams, providing executive leadership with insights on performance and strategy.
Candidate Profile
- A minimum of 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in ecommerce, digital marketing, or online sales leadership roles, including at least 3 to 5 years at a senior or vice president level.
- Demonstrated success in driving profitable revenue growth within direct-to-consumer ecommerce businesses, preferably within apparel, fashion, or outdoor sectors.
- Strong capability to escalate sales while protecting gross margins through strategic pricing and promotional discipline.
- Direct, hands-on experience managing affiliate and partnership sales programs, particularly using Impact.com and Trybe platforms.
- Expertise in paid marketing campaigns, especially on Meta and Google platforms, alongside proficiency in email/SMS marketing tools such as Klaviyo, Attentive, or Postscript.
- In-depth knowledge of Shopify platforms and data analytics to drive informed decision-making.
- Proven leadership ability in building and managing high-performing teams incorporating both internal staff and external agencies.
- The ability to combine strong sales skills with marketing savvy, adept at closing deals, negotiating partnerships, and developing comprehensive funnel strategies.
- A proactive and innovative mindset suited for a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment that values creative problem solving and relentless pursuit of success.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within fashion, apparel, outdoor, footwear, or lifestyle brand sectors.
- Familiarity with influencer marketing and creator commerce platforms.
- Experience expanding ecommerce operations internationally including localization efforts.
- An MBA or another advanced degree is advantageous but not mandatory.
Success Metrics
- Growth in ecommerce revenue and achieving targeted gross margins.
- Efficiency in full-price product sell-through and markdown/discount management.
- Affiliate and partnership revenue and margin contributions, including growth of affiliate partner portfolio.
