Role Summary

The Director of Compliance will report to the Chief Compliance Officer and play a crucial role in developing and enhancing Vestis’s ethics and compliance program. This includes governance, risk assessments, policy creation, training initiatives, hotline and investigation management, monitoring activities, auditing, and comprehensive reporting to leadership and the Audit Committee. The position requires strong judgment, a practical business perspective, and the capability to translate compliance requirements into clear and actionable processes across the organization. The role is primarily remote with occasional travel (~5-10%) for meetings, site visits, and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help manage and refine the ethics and compliance program, covering business conduct, anti-corruption, hotline reporting, investigations, regulatory adherence, and training efforts.
  • Convert compliance requirements into effective policies, procedures, controls, training materials, communications, and operational processes suitable for Vestis’s distributed business model.
  • Create, update, and implement company policies and compliance documentation in straightforward, business-oriented language.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of various compliance training sessions including annual comprehensive and targeted risk-based programs.
  • Oversee the intake, assessment, assignment, documentation, and closure of hotline reports and other concerns, collaborating with Legal, HR, Internal Audit, and relevant teams.
  • Support standardized investigation procedures, track corrective actions, coordinate disciplinary measures, and report trends or recurrent compliance issues.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit and leaders to facilitate compliance monitoring, testing, audits, and follow-up on corrective tasks.
  • Manage Compliance Committee activities, including preparation of meetings, agendas, materials, minutes, follow-ups, and periodic reporting.
  • Coordinate with compliance owners and experts to maintain clarity on regulatory, industry, customer, and internal policies and responsibilities.
  • Participate in risk assessments by identifying requirements, evaluating controls, assessing risk levels, documenting findings, and proposing practical improvements.
  • Prepare executive-level reports, dashboards, presentations, and summaries for senior leadership and committees.
  • Analyze data and trends to identify emerging risks, training gaps, control weaknesses, and opportunities to enhance compliance effectiveness.
  • Represent the compliance function in cross-departmental meetings and cultivate strong relationships with corporate and field leaders.
  • Support environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives as required.
  • Contribute to additional compliance projects and tasks as assigned.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Exceptional judgment, decision-making skills, integrity, and confidentiality maintenance.
  • Practical approach to transforming compliance directives into actionable and understandable processes for diverse teams.
  • Ability to simplify complex topics, pinpoint risks, and produce clear leadership recommendations.
  • Proven effectiveness in influencing across organizational levels without direct authority.
  • Operationally focused mindset with sensitivity to the realities of dispersed business settings.
  • Strong project management capabilities, handling multiple tasks and ensuring completion.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic, fast-moving workplace with changing priorities and diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including preparing executive summaries, reports, and training materials.
  • Analytical prowess to leverage data and audit results for informed decision-making and ongoing improvements.
  • Dedication to fostering ethical culture and upholding corporate integrity for all stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is mandatory.
  • At least five years in compliance, legal, audit, investigations, risk management, operations, human resources, or related areas.
  • Experience in corporate compliance programs, investigation processes, policy management, risk assessments, training, audits, or governance is advantageous.
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint necessary; experience creating executive dashboards and reports preferred.
