Job description
Position Overview
The Director of Basketball Operations collaborates closely with the Head Coach to manage the full spectrum of operational activities within the men's basketball program at the University of Michigan.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between the basketball program and the Business Office, managing all related transactions.
- Oversee purchasing processes and contract negotiations pertinent to the basketball program.
- Coordinate with the Travel Office to manage travel plans and logistics for the team.
- Organize travel arrangements for the men's basketball squad.
- Manage scheduling of future opponents and coordinate team practice sessions.
- Handle logistics for visiting teams and home game operations.
- Attend to student-athletes' campus-related requirements including financial aid, holiday breaks, incoming freshman arrangements, academic mentorship, public relations, media engagements, and compliance documentation.
- Serve as liaison with the Ticket Office overseeing ticket distribution for home basketball and football recruiting events, as well as home and away basketball games for athletes and staff.
- Collaborate with Nutrition Specialists to arrange team meals at the Training Table.
- Coordinate with the Equipment Manager and Apparel Provider for basketball needs.
- Liaise with Facilities Managers to ensure adequate infrastructure support.
- Work alongside the Staff General Manager to support Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) activities.
- Assist with all on-campus recruiting efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Comprehensive understanding of NCAA compliance regulations.
- Direct experience working within or playing NCAA basketball.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
- Strong interpersonal skills capable of managing sensitive and confidential situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Proficient with computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Capacity to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks with time-sensitive priorities.
Work Arrangement
Remote work is available; hybrid or mobile work options are subject to departmental discretion and require annual review and potential modification throughout employment.
