Job description

Position Overview

The University of Idaho seeks a Director of Athletic Communications to lead and coordinate external communications, branding, and messaging efforts within the Department of Athletics and in partnership with the broader university community. This role is essential in enhancing the profile and reputation of Idaho Vandal Athletics and the university through strategic, creative communication initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and recruit communications personnel to build a strong team.
  • Manage the communications budget and track associated expenditures.
  • Create, review, and edit varied content for designated sports programs.
  • Maintain and update the official athletic website, govandals.com, alongside social media channels and other digital communication platforms.
  • Collaborate on gathering data and deriving insights to enhance digital revenue strategies.
  • Compile and preserve statistical data relating to assigned sports.
  • Engage with local and national media and broadcasting partners to ensure timely and precise coverage.
  • Advise and support department seniors through consultation and writing assistance.
  • Perform additional duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in communications is preferred; alternatively, a total of five years of relevant experience can substitute for the degree requirement.
  • At least one year of experience in media relations or organizing public events.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Background in collegiate athletics communications.
  • Experience collaborating directly with coaches and athletic teams.
  • Proficient writing and copy editing abilities.
  • Competency in video production and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with NCAA regulations, compliance, and related governing policies.

Work Environment and Requirements

  • Ability to operate effectively amidst frequent interruptions and ambient noise.
  • Compliance with all NCAA, Big Sky Conference, HIPAA, FERPA, and university policies is required.

Additional Information

  • Position is exempt and full-time at the Moscow, ID campus.
  • Salary range: $55,000 to $65,000 annually.
  • Applicants must pass a criminal background check if selected as final candidates.
