Director, Investment Risk

Role Overview

Alat is hiring a Director, Investment Risk for its Riyadh office. This position is responsible for reinforcing the organization’s investment risk framework through strong governance, independent oversight, and active portfolio risk management throughout the investment lifecycle. The role must stay aligned with Alat’s strategic investment goals and risk appetite.

The selected candidate will act as an independent risk partner to Executive Management, offering informed judgment and constructive challenge to support major decisions while helping protect the investment portfolio and supporting disciplined growth and value creation across strategically important industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and guide investment risk strategy, governance structures, and oversight routines.
• Provide independent advice on investment proposals, portfolio exposures, and strategic transactions.
• Evaluate risks at both deal and portfolio level, including mitigation steps and escalation needs.
• Prepare concise, practical risk analysis and reporting for senior leaders.
• Contribute independent risk views to investment committees and other decision-making bodies.
• Track new and evolving risks across the portfolio and recommend workable improvements.
• Help strengthen risk culture, internal controls, and governance across the investment process.

Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Risk Management, or a closely related discipline.
• A master’s degree is preferred, and professional certifications or equivalent credentials are also viewed favorably.
• At least 12 years of experience in investment risk, portfolio risk, investment management, or similar investment settings, including exposure to sovereign wealth funds, private equity, investment holding companies, or institutional investors.
• Solid knowledge of investment governance, portfolio risk, transaction risk, and risk reporting.
• Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and provide independent challenge.
• Strong analytical ability, communication skills, and executive-level reporting capability.
• Comfort operating with autonomy, disciplined judgment, and a strategic mindset.
