Role Overview
The Director, People Operations will lead daily HR operations, reporting directly to the CEO, and supervising an internal Recruiter as the company scales. This role ensures execution of key HR functions such as performance management, managerial support, employee experience, compliance, and workforce planning with clear ownership and consistent follow-through. This position requires sound judgment, transparent communication, and a pragmatic, trust-based style to enable leaders and teams to thrive with streamlined processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a reliable HR partner, guiding managers on performance and team dynamics, managing sensitive employee issues with care and fairness.
- Collaborate with the CEO to manage rapid growth sustainably while preserving Osmind’s culture. Introduce workforce efficiency initiatives including a top-tier upskilling program and fostering positive AI adoption culture.
- Drive workforce planning and hiring discipline with leadership, maintaining headcount models to support hiring strategies balancing quality, budget, and timelines.
- Function as a culture ambassador and employee experience advocate, partnering with leadership on critical internal communications and events to enhance retention and engagement.
- Deliver comprehensive people programs such as performance reviews and benefit renewals, ensuring clarity and simplicity for managers and teams.
- Manage operational excellence and compliance including payroll, benefits, leave policies, and vendor escalation processes.
- Oversee recruiting operations and employee experience efforts; manage an in-house recruiter and directly handle select full-cycle recruitment demands.
- Administer the San Francisco office experience with a 2-day weekly onsite schedule, ensuring smooth office operations and fostering productive in-person time.
Success Metrics
Success is defined by balancing business needs with a strong employee experience, implementing disciplined workforce management, leading AI cultural adoption, and maintaining a unifying, human-centric leadership voice across the company.
Initial 90-Day Plan
- Within 30 days: Build relationships with CEO, Finance, and managers; stabilize core People Operations processes and SF office functions; begin advancing prioritized initiatives.
- Within 60 days: Establish consistent workforce planning with Finance; gather organizational insights to improve outcomes; embed AI adoption through learning and performance accountability.
- Within 90 days: Demonstrate progress in hiring and planning; become a trusted advisor for leadership; establish a sustainable People Operations cadence.
Candidate Profile
- At least 7 years of experience in People Operations or HR business partner roles, preferably in fast-growing startup environments.
- Solid HR generalist skills including performance management, employee relations, investigations, policy development, and manager coaching.
- Located in San Francisco area with ability to attend office 2+ days per week.
- Experience managing hybrid and geographically distributed teams.
- Highly autonomous, proactive, and dependable with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven change management leadership, especially with AI adoption or organizational redesigns.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication with ability to craft clear messages and energize company events.
- Hands-on operator comfortable with office logistics and daily onsite management.
- Strong judgment and discretion dealing with sensitive personnel matters.
- Alignment with Osmind’s mission to improve mental health care and uphold fairness and clarity.
- Familiarity with AI tools for workflow automation and a founder-/CEO-level advisory background preferred.
- Experience managing at least one direct report.

- Healthcare industry experience with hiring for specialized roles.

Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary range is $200,000 to $225,000, plus equity for eligible employees. Osmind provides a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, dental, vision, generous family leave, flexible spending accounts, mental health support, 401(k), and flexible paid time off.
